Agartala, June 20: AITC general Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who campaigned for the party in Tripura on Sunday, appealed to the voters to give their mandate in favour of Trinamool Congress in the ensuing by-elections to four seats.
He also called upon the electorates not to waste their votes by exercising their franchise in favour of BJP, Congress or CPI-M.
Addressing a press conference, he said, “the people should only vote for TMC to restore democracy, establish rule of law and solve unemployment problem.”
He alleged that law and order has collapsed in the state, people’s voice is being suppressed and unemployment problem has taken a serious turn in the state.
TMC state president Subal Bhowmik, MP Susmita Dev, party leaders including Rajib Banerjee and Kunal Ghosh from West Bengal were also present in the press conference.
Banerjee alleged that two candidates of TMC-- Panna Deb (Agartala) and Sanhita Banerjee (Town Bardowali)-- were attacked by BJP goons.
"Why I appeal to voters to exercise their democratic right fearlessly, because it is not a battle between BJP and TMC or other parties. It is a fight between the autocratic government and the masses," he added.
Banerjee said, “We have been attacked since day one so that our message does not reach the people. Our rallies and meetings have been disrupted multiple times and our workers were even attacked. But, the threat and intimidation have only strengthened our resolve to fight for the people of Tripura.”
Banerjee urged people of Tripura to support TMC to win the fight to restore democracy in the state.
“We have been on the streets for your dignity and the safety of our women. But if we don't have the people's support, we will not be able to win this fight. This is not a political fight between different parties. The fight is between people of Tripura and BJP. This is a fight for democracy and safety of our people," Banerjee said.
Banerjee joined the party’s poll campaign addressed a public rally at Surma constituency in Dhalai district where he said the people are ready to oust the BJP government and pave the way for a prosperous Tripura in the coming days.
“Today I attended a Jansabha in Surma and the energy among people was electrifying. Elated to see such a thunderous support for All India Trinamool Congress! I urge you all to vote with your heads held high and know for sure that Trinamool Congress will always be there beside you, ready to serve you,” Banerjee wrote on social media.
During the rally, the AITC National General Secretary felicitated the 8-year-old child who among others was allegedly attacked by BJP miscreants a few days back.
Meanwhile, a press release from TMC said a writ petition is being file before the High Court of Tripura on various issues including a request for security to all party leaders and their residence, removal of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha’s photo from government web portals since he is also a candidate.
