Agartala Dec 06: Along with the rest of the country, Tripura Civil Defence and Home Guards Organization celebrated its Raising Day at the AD Nagar Police Parade Ground here on Tuesday.
Various battalions of the Tripura State Rifles and others took part in the parade.
The Indian Home Guard is an Indian Paramilitary police Force. It is a voluntary force tasked as auxiliary to the Indian Police.
Apart from army, navy, air force and other security agencies, the twin voluntary organizations Civil Defence and Home Guards were raised to provide protection to citizens in any untoward situation.
However, every year the nation celebrates Civil Defence and Home Guards Raising Day in order to make the citizens aware and highlight the importance of Civil Defence in the country.
The 60th All India Civil Defence and Home Guards Raising Day 2022 was celebrated with due dignity at the AD Nagar Police Grounds.
Minister of Fire and Emergency Services Ram Prasad Paul accompanied by the DIG Amitabh Ranjan inspected the guard of honour.
Addressing the celebration of 60th All India Civil Defence & Home Guard Day at Manoranjan Memorial Ground in Agartala on Tuesday, Minister Ram Prasad Paul said, “Considering the vulnerability mapping of natural calamity, the Tripura government is working to build a comprehensive network of civil defence forces in the state to strengthen the deal with the natural disasters”.
He said that state-of-the-art technology was added to the state to deal with disasters with the help of the central government, where Tripura is well equipped with sophisticated tools to deal with natural calamities like floods and others.
The state government has already employed at least one trained civil defence personnel in each of the urban wards across the state to manage the crisis in the name of ‘Apada Mitra’, he added.
The minister further added, “The civil defence ang home guard personnel are working tirelessly while risking their lives to save people and their property”.
Mentioning that “Prevention is better than cure”, Minister Ram Prasad Paul pointed out that the state government has been working for awareness generation among the common mass and structural rectification for the past years.
Besides, Seminars, workshops, mock drills are conducted at regular basis to aware and train the people.
Minister Ram Prasad Paul also expressed condolences and tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
Speaking on the occasion, principal secretary, state Revenue Department, Puneet Agarwal said, “Since 27 July, 2021 the scope of work for civil defence personnel has been extended in all the districts of Tripura. There are more than 2,000 civil defence volunteers in the state at present”.
State Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan, Director of state Civil Defence Anindya Kumar Bhattacharjee also spoke on the occasion.
In the second part of the program, No.1 Platoon of SDRF, No.2 Platoon of Fire and Emergency Services and Home Guard were accorded first, second and third positions respectively.
Besides, 1 Civil Defence volunteer from each district of the state were felicitated by the Minister of Fire and Emergency Services Ram Prasad Paul.
