Agartala, Oct 01: Accusing the government and its labour department of depriving the brick kiln workers and owners the CITU state committee leader Manik Dey on Sunday alleged that the presently the brick industry in Tripura is reeling under acute crisis due to lack of construction works across the state.
Manik Dey was addressing a state organisational convention of Tripura Brick Kiln Workers’ Union here at Agartala.
“During the time of the then Left front government, there was a need to import bricks from neighbouring Bangladesh due to shortage of brick production in the state, but now the situation turned worst, where the brick kiln owners are incurring loss as they are unable to sell their bricks due to lack of buyers,” he said.
Addressing the gathering of brick kiln workers and owners in the convention, the CITU leader slammed the state’s labour department and said that the department is negligent towards hiking the wages of the workers of the brick kilns in the state. In addition to this, the kiln workers are also being deprived of proper housing infrastructure for them, as the government is negligent towards maintaining and repairing the houses for their stay in the kilns.
