Agartala Jan 04: Tripura chief minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday flagged off 13 Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs) for the state, in presence of Animal Resources Development Department Minister Bhagaban Das, among others.
These vehicles will be deployed throughout the state to address livestock health and treatment, as the vehicles will be equipped with veterinary tools to diagnose, treat and begin minor surgeries on animals.
Addressing the occasion at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala chief minister Dr Manik Saha said, “With the help of various state and central government schemes livestock farmers across the state have seen a new direction in terms of welfare”.
“Development in the field of Animal Husbandry has added to the GDP growth in Tripura”, he added.
The chief minister said, “The ARD Department has also taken numerous steps to make people self-reliant. Pigs, cows, fish fingers and poultry are provided from the government and the department so that people can become self-reliant by rearing livestock. Not only this, fodder, medicines and other facilities are also provided”.
“Because of sufficient production of fish, meat and dairy products in the state itself, Tripura doesn’t need to borrow from other places”, he added.
The chief minister also praised the success of sexed semen-based technology in the state under the flagship of ‘Mukhyamantri Unnat Godhan Prakalp’.
Talking about the newly launched MVUs, the chief minister said, “Animal will also get advanced services at the doorstep and the farmers will be benefitted through this”.
“Besides taking care of existing farmers who depend upon their livestock, the service will also encourage more farmers to take up livestock farming in a big way,” he said.
Speaking to the reporters, Minister ARD Govt of Tripura said, “In a bid to increase accessibility of veterinary services at farmers’ doorsteps, Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs) have been launched in the state of Tripura for 1 MVU approximately for one lakh population”.
“These MVUs will provide veterinary services at the farmers’ doorstep based on phone calls received at the call centres. Also, the MVUs will be positioned at strategic locations in order to minimize travel time and to provide service within targeted time”, he added.
The minister further said that this step will prove to be a blessing to the farmers and a milestone in the ARD Department.
The introduction of these vehicles, will facilitate the mobility for the field veterinarian and farmers to provide doorstep treatment to their livestock, said B S Mishra, Principal Secretary ARD Department.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder also remained present at the program among other dignitaries.
