Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who took a review of the progress of road construction across the state in virtual manner, passed an instruction to the PWD to complete the on-going road works before Durga Puja.
Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Secretary of PWD, Secretary of P&C, Addl. PCCF, Chief Engineer, PWD(R&B) and other senior officers participated in the virtual review meet.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized on timely completion of road construction works, as well as road maintenance works in the state.
At present, construction of 257 km National Highways, 937 km of State Highways, district roads and village road is under progress. In addition to the sanction by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the Tripura Government has allotted Rs.948 crore from RIDF, Special Central Assistance, Suvarna Jayanti Tripura Nirman scheme and other State budget sources for development of 937 km roads and 35 bridges in the State, according to a government press release.
The Public Works Department has also taken up maintenance of 1450 km of major roads with allocation of Rs.160 crores during 2022-23. State Government is following up with Government of India for sanction of 775 km roads under PMGSY-III, declaration of Kamalpur— Ambassa— Gandacherra as National Highway and more sanction of roads from Central Road Infrastructure Fund of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The Chief Secretary emphasized in the timely completion of the road projects and maintaining the quality of construction. He assured the provision of adequate funds for carrying out the development of roads in the state as per public need. The Chief Minister instructed the PWD Engineers to speed up the implementation of the roads by regularly visiting the project site, inspection of quality of works, obtaining of forest and other land clearances in time.
He also suggested to use new technology in road construction like nano technology, use of plastic in road construction to improve durability and strength of the roads.
