Tripura CPI-M, Cong leaders visit poll-violence victims day after by-election

Agartala, June 24: A day after the by-elections to the four assembly constituencies of the state, the leader of opposition Manik Sarkar and CPI-M candidate for 6-Agartala constituency Krishna Majumder on Friday visited the houses of the victims of the alleged poll violence. Similarly 8-Bordowali constituency’s Congress candidate Asish Saha also visited some of the victims of by-poll related violence.
Sarkar visited the police constable admitted to GBP Hospital who had been stabbed by a miscreant during the day of polling under 6-Agartala constituency. Sarkar took stock of the health situation of the police constable.
The former Chief Minister went to the house of nonagenarian Salil Debbarma who cast his vote despite assaults on him by a section of BJP workers.
“I have come here to express my respect to him (Salil Debbarma) who in this age braved the miscreants and exercised his right to franchise. He placed before the people as to how one should protect his rights. He sets before all an example”, said Sarkar who was accompanied by among others former Minister Tapan Chakrabarty, Manik Dey , Left Front convenor Narayan Kar.
Sarkar expressed concern and shock over the alleged poll violence and attacks on voters in 6-Agartala constituency and said, “It is very unfortunate that such incidents and that too on large scale were reported from Chief Minister’s constituency.”
He also alleged that in addition to the general public and voters, even the old and senior citizen voters were not spared on the hands of hooligans and miscreants on the day of polling. Sarkar also visited the residences of the victims of alleged poll violence.
Congress leader and candidate Asish Saha also visited the house of Salil Debbarma and enquired about the details of the incident. He also expressed shock and condemned the incident.
On the other the CPI-M candidate for 6-Agartala constituency – Krishna Majumder accompanied by the CPI-M leader Pabitra Kar and other party leaders on Friday visited the houses of the alleged poll violence victims and accused the ruling BJP party of roping giant number of outsiders in addition to their hooligans to create tense situation across the constituencies including 6-Agartala.
She alleged that the BJP’s motorbike-borne miscreants wheeled across the 6-Agartala constituency on June 22 night, a day before the polling and threatened the voters of dire consequences if they step out of their house for casting vote.
CPI-M leader Pabitra Kar alleged that the BJP had owned the ideology of creating a terror like situation on the day of polling and before all across the state. He alleged that cars and bikes of the CPI-M supporters and voters were damaged.
