Dharmanagar April 20: Hoping for a miracle against the ruling force, the opposition Left-Congress combine marched the city of Dharmanagar in support of I.N.D.I.A bloc candidate Rajendra Reang on Saturday.
After the 1st phase of Lok Sabha elections held on April 19, the political parties have engaged in rigorous campaigning as the poll battleground spans the East Tripura Lok Sabha seat awaiting polling on April 26 next.
Targeting to uproot the BJP from power, the Congress and CPI-M are jointly reaching out to its supporters through various public outreach programs including rallies, door-to-door campaigns among others.
Saturday, after a city-wide rally by both the political allies, a gathering was also held in front of Dharmanagar Congress Bhavan.
CPI-M state secretary and Leader of Opposition Jiten Choudhury addressed the program in presence of other leaders including Pabitra Kar, North District CPI-M secretary Amitabh Butta, Pradesh Congress secretary Chayan Bhattacharjee, Congress leader Ajit Das among others.
CPI-M MLA Jiten Choudhury urged the people to unite and overthrow the undemocratic government at the Centre and cast votes in favor of I.N.D.I.A bloc candidates.
“27 political parties have come together to form the I.N.D.I Alliance to save democracy, rule of law and ensure overall welfare of the common masses because people are disoriented by the dictatorial rule for 10 years”, said Choudhury.
Slamming the BJP government further, the CPI-M MLA said, “Coming to power in the year 2014, the BJP has been deceiving the youths, cheating the farmers saying that their farm loans would be waived off. Then said that black market profiteers of the country whose black money is stored abroad will be recovered within 100 days and this money will be put into the pockets of common countrymen. It assured the people that the rate at which commodity prices had risen would be kept within people's means. Believing in all those promises, people voted BJP to power but not a single promise has been fulfilled”.
“In 2018, people were told that if there is a double engine government, Tripura will achieve great progress, but so far, no implementation of the promise has happened. It was said that the state will become a model state within three years, but after six years, there has been no change in the state's condition”, he alleged.
The senior CPI-M leader alleged that people's rights and freedoms are being taken away while people are being threatened all over this state.
Addressing the gathering, Choudhury also pointed out several abnormalities in the polling process of West Tripura LS Seat on Friday.
He alleged that the people who are not eligible to vote in the West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency even from Dharmanagar have exercised their right to democracy. Thus, a farcical situation has arisen in the state.
Opposition leader Jiten Choudhury also criticized Dharmanagar MLA and State Assembly Speaker Bishwa Bandhu Sen.
The opposition leaders called on the common people to vote for Rajendra Reang and ensure his victory with a record margin of votes.
