Agartala, Aug 22: With the flood situation reached its extreme level in Tripura due to heavy downpours for the past four days, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha held a conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and apprised him of the current scenario.
The Home Minister informed that a total of eleven NDRF teams would be sent to Tripura from different locations in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the Chief Minister said.
In view of the severity of the flood, arrangements would also be made for choppers for airlifting of the stranded people in the flood affected areas and sending more number of boats, the Chief Minister wrote in a social media post.
The Chief Minister thanked the Union Home Minister for providing instant assistance to the people of Tripura.
The Union Minister assured all necessary support to Tripura in rescue and relief operation.
According to Dr. Saha, the entire State Government machinery has been working round the clock to tackle with the unprecedented natural calamity.
He appreciated the public representatives, social workers and other individuals for cooperating with the State Government at this hour of crisis.
Tripura has been witnessing extreme flood following unprecedented rainfall over the past 72 hours.
According to the latest report, at least 10 people have lost their lives and more than 50,000 people have been rendered homeless and sheltered around 500 relief camps across the state in the past 4 days.
According to reports coming from various places, the flood water has started receding. If fresh rainfall doesn't occur, the situation will continue to improve.

On Thursday, hours after the Chief Minister's conversation with the Union Home Minister three flights of Indian Airforce carrying 120 NDRF personnel landed at Maharaja Bir Bikram airport, Agartala. They are being dispatched and will join the rescue operation shortly.
The IMD predicted more rainfall for the next few days with Red Alert in some districts.
The Chief Minister held an important meeting with the Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha and other officials and discussed the overall flood situation. He passed necessary instructions for rescue of people from flood affected areas and timely supply of relief items.
Due to the current flood situation, it has been decided that all educational institutions, including Government, Government-aided, and private(Schools, Colleges and State run universities) will remain closed until further notice. A formal notification will be issued shortly.
