Agartala, April 06: The state power minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday chaired a review meeting with the officers of the power department of the state and said that the government is committed to render uninterrupted power service and connect every rural household with power supply.
The meeting was held here at Agartala Pragna Bhawan with the officers of three districts of the state. The minister was accompanied by the secretary of the power department Brijesh Pandey, Managing Director of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) Debashish Sarkar and other officers.
The department took a plan to render 24 hours power supply during this monsoon season of April and May month, said minister Ratan Lal Nath. He said that as part of the plan, series of issues were discussed including deployment of adequate manpower, adequate vehicles in service and others.
“We are focused on rendering uninterrupted power supply in the rural pockets of the state and to work on this the department may need to take additional expenses of around Rs. 88 lakhs,” he told reporters. He further informed that the Union Ministry will soon send a team here in the state to check the feasibility of implementing clean and green energy. Government is also working on a power storage facility in the state, he added.
He said, “As per the latest report of the NITI Aayog, the state of Tripura stands at 83rd position out of 100 point. In that case the situation is not that bad in our state but then we need to work more with a clear vision.”
The minister directed the officials of the state power department to stay alert and refrain from leaving stations unnecessarily in this ensuing monsoon season.
The minister however sought cooperation from the general public and hoped that the department will be able to work towards rendering uninterrupted power supply across the state. Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday also urged upon the general public to refrain from power theft. He said that during the last one year there was no hike in power tariff in the state, but failing to stop the power theft cases would lead the government to increase power tariff in near future.
He said that the review meeting on Thursday mainly focused on preparedness to maintain steady power supply during monsoon, enhancement of revenue collection and others. He said that another meeting will be held on April 12 and 13 next with the officers of the rest of the districts accordingly.
