Tripura Govt launches special drive to arrest drug kingpin: CM

Agartala, Sept 24: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday said that the state government has launched special drive to arrest the drug kingpin and urged the public to join in creating a movement against the drug menace.
Chief Minister Dr. Saha inaugurated the celebration of the 55th NSS Day 2023 and a seminar on “NESHA MUKT TRIPURA” organized by the NSS Cell at Rabindra Satabarsiki Bhavan on Sunday.
Addressing the event, Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of knowledge for a bright future.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi always engages with the students. Today, I also listened to PM Modi’s Mann ki Baat. There are many things we can learn from him. In Mann Ki Baat, he highlighted unique aspects before the country which we never knew before. He always thinks about the youth, which make up around 65% of our population, a resource that is unparalleled and you will found nowhere elese”, said Dr. Saha.
He pointed out that there are conspiracies at play when it is observed that a majority of youths reside in India and to destroy the youths a section of people are working for smuggling of drugs from Myanmar, Mizoram, and Tripura to Bangladesh.
"The main objective of the 'Nasha Mukt Tripura' campaign is to respond to the numerous requests we have received from people to save their children from the clutches of drugs. Entire families are being destroyed due to drug abuse. We have taken several initiatives and have made numerous arrests. Efforts are underway to apprehend the drug kingpins, and people should initiate a movement by identifying those involved in drug trafficking. This will aid our efforts. Drug abuse is a pervasive issue in the state, wreaking havoc on families. A section of people are hatching conspiracy by smuggling drugs from Myanmar through Tripura to Bangladesh to destroy the youth of our country,” said Dr. Saha.
He also urged NSS volunteers to actively participate in the fight against the drug menace in the state.
During the event, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, Secretary Dr PK Chakraborty, Sh. Jangjilong, Regional Director, Regional Directorate of NSS Guwahati, Brigadier JP Tiwari, Director Sainik Welfare and others were present.
