Tripura govt proposes more 25 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras: Rampada

Agartala, Nov 04: The Tripura government sent a proposal to the Ministry of Tribal Welfare and Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) for establishing more 25 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras in Tripura, a minister said on Friday.
Addressing a press conference, Janajati Welfare minister Rampada Jamatia said 32 Van Dhan Vikas Kendra have already been set up in the state and a proposal has been sent to the centre for establishment of more 25 such facilities.
He said, the state government sanctioned Rs. 1 crore under Jhum cultivation project in 2022-23. Under this project, 8368 hardcore Jhumia families would be given wages of six days at Rs. 212 per family.
According to Jamatia, rubber cultivation would be undertaken in 30000 hectares of land under the Mukhyamantri Rubber Mission in the next five years. The state government already provided Rs. 10 crore in the current financial year for implementing the project.
He also said, the Ministry of Tribal Welfare identified 375 villages in Tripura under Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojana.
Elaborating on other initiatives of the state government for Janajati welfare, Jamatia said a Rs.1300 crore World Bank funded project has been planned for socio-economic development in ADC areas.
Under this project, overall development in 23 tribal dominated and 12 aspirational blocks would be given priority. The project would be jointly implemented through joint initiatives of the Janajati Welfare department, TRLM, Agriculture and Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, PWD, Education, Transport and Rural Development departments, Jamatia said.
