Tripura govt to honor Birsa Munda, two Santhal rebellion leaders: ICA minister

Agartala, Nov 04: The Tripura government has taken a decision to honor Tribal Freedom Fighter- Birsa Munda and two Santhal rebellion leaders- Sidhu Murmu and Kanhu Murmu, Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs- Sushanta Chowdhury announced on Friday.
In a social media post, he mentioned that a decision has been taken to install statues of Birsa Munda, Sidhu Murmu and Kanhu Murmu to honor their sacrifices and highlight their valour to the young generation.
The ICA minister chaired a meeting in his office chamber at the civil secretariat on Saturday to discuss the matter.
As decided in the meeting, the statue of Birsa Munda would be installed at Banabithi Park in Khowai and the statues of Sidhu and Kanhu Murmu would be placed at Brahmakunda in Mohanpur sub-division, Chowdhury mentioned on social media.
He also passed an instruction to the officials concerned to complete the installation of the proposed statues at the earliest. According to Chowdhury, the statues would be unveiled in presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha very soon.
Chairman of Tripura Tea Development Corporation Santosh Saha, managing director Manik Lal Das, secretary of ICA department Dr. P.K. Chakravarty, director Ratan Biswas and administrative officials from Khowai and Mohanpur sub-divisions were present in the meeting.
