Agartala, Nov 10: The state road and transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Sunday said that the Tripura government under the directives of the Centre will soon implement the Vehicle Scrapping policy to reduce emission.
The minister attended the programme of observance of Transport Day, organised by the Institution of Engineers (India) Tripura state centre in association with the state transport department here in the seminar hall of Institution of Engineers (India) Tripura state centre at Agartala.
A day long seminar was held on ‘Construction of Water-Resistant Roads in Tripura – Challenges, opportunities and innovations’ to mark the Transport Day.
Addressing the event, the minister said that the implementation of vehicle scrapping policy remained pending in the state. In the recent cabinet meeting, the government has decided to implement the policy, which aims to reduce pollution by phasing out old and polluting vehicles.
On a different note, the minister highlighted the achievement of the government in transforming the transportation system of the state and said, “Earlier there was only one National Highway, which now increased to 6. On the other hand, Tripura has witnessed massive transformation rail and air connectivity.”
The minister also said that the government will also soon implement the E-Vehicle Policy, which aims to reduce air pollution and increase the number of electric vehicles on the road.
