Tripura government is taking various initiatives in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of doubling farmers’ income, said Agriculture minister Pranajit Singha Roy.
In a video message, the Agriculture minister said, the Tripura government is working for the overall development of farmers. With the goal of doubling the farmers’ income, the government is implementing various schemes and ensuring that every farmer gets the benefits, he said.
The central and state governments already took various steps for marketing of the produce following which the farmers are receiving the benefit, the Agriculture minister said.
“There is an unprecedented hike in the price of MOP fertilizer which is imported to our country. The farmers may face problem if they pay the extended rate. An appeal has been placed before the Prime Minister and Tripura government also decided that the extended price will not be taken from the farmers,” Singh Roy said in the video message.
He also highlighted that the paddy procurement drive initiated by the Tripura government had benefitted the farmers to a great extent over the past four and half years. The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy has already increased from Rs. 17.50 to 19.40 per kg. Now, a plan is in the pipeline to increase the MSP at Rs. 20.40 per kg, he said.
All possible assistance are being extended to the farmers in order to double their income, the Agriculture minister added.
