Agartala, Sept 27: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said his government has already taken various steps to strengthen the tourism sector.
Addressing the state-level World Tourism Day programme at Ujjayanta Palace on Wednesday evening, the Chief Minister said, Tripura is home to endless natural beauty. Besides, the vibrant culture and tradition make our State more attractive to the tourists.
He said, the present state government is committed to improving the tourist facilities at various locations and various plans have already been implemented to strengthen this sector.
The Chief Minister said, former skipper of Indian cricket team Sourav Ganguly has become brand ambassador of Tripura tourism and it is a landmark step towards promoting and expanding the state’s tourism sector.
He also said, in view of the safety of the tourists, the state government has already decided to recruit tourist police.
Minister for Tourism Sushsnta Chowdhury said, brand ambassador Sourav Ganguly would arrive in the state on a two-day tour in October next and take necessary initiatives to promote tourism.
He also said, a project of Rs. 169 crore has been undertaken with the support from the Asian Development Bank to develop the tourist destinations in the state.
Besides, an amount of Rs. 90 crore under Swadesh Darshan-I and Rs. 140 crore under Swadesh Darshan-II would be spent to make the tourist spots attractive, he said.
Chowdhury also mentioned, Vidyasagar village under Mohanpur block has been awarded for its special contributions in rural tourism.
Tourism Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma said, an amount of Rs. 1000 crore would be spent over the next five years to boost Tripura tourism.
Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder was also present in the programme.
During the inaugural part, six stakeholders were honoured for their contributions in promoting tourism. Besides, the winners of debate competition organized to mark World Tourism Day were awarded—Papia Shome (first), Abhishek Debnath (second) and Ritam Janapati (third).
The observance of World Tourism Day included a colourful cultural event with the participation of eminent artists.
