Tripura Madrasa Teachers demands ‘Equal Pay for Equal Work’; places deputation

Agartala Jan 09: All Tripura Madrassa Teachers Association (ATMTA) on Monday met in deputation with the director of elementary education with seven point charter of demands in the interest of the teachers as well as of the ‘Madrassa’ education in the state.
More than 300 Madrassa teachers staged protest demonstration in front of the Shiksha Bhavan raising their prime demand for ‘Equal pay for equal work’.
Talking to the reporters in this context, Shah Alam, vice president of the state committee of ATMTA said, “We demand equal pay for equal work. The state government has announced significant changes in terms of financial benefits including salaries starting from cook cum helpers to teachers and other state government employees except Madrassa teachers”.
“In these five years of the state government a single decision has not been made in the Cabinet considering the Madrassa teachers of the state”, he added.
The agitators further added, “We are also teachers working in similar school but salaries of Madrassa teacher is barely Rs 21,000 while the other teachers receive salary of more than Rs 50,000 which is gross injustice to us”.
The Madrassa teachers who gathered in front of the Directorate of Education demanded provision of salary at par with the salary of regular teachers of the state government including all other facilities provided to the regular employees.
The other demands included appointment of teachers in all vacant posts of SPEMM Madrassas and creation of new posts for smooth running of the Madrassa education system among others.
In course of the deputation, the Director of Elementary Education has assured the delegation of Madrassa teachers, to bring the demands placed by ATMTA to higher authority for consideration and acceptance.
