Sonamura, Jan 31: Minister for Food, Transport and Tourism Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday encouraged the students to remain vigilant against drug abuse.
Highlighting the adverse impact of drug abuse, he delivered a brief yet impactful speech and provided valuable advice to the students during the 37th Freshers’ welcome programme of Kabi Nazrul College, Sonamura.
He mentioned that drug abuse poses a threat to the younger generation.
Addressing the students, the minister stressed the importance of academics in an era of tough competition.
He said, there was a time when jobs could be secured through personal connections, but that is no longer the case. Today, only merit determines success. Government jobs now require clearing competitive exams, he pointed out.
Chowdhury advised students to prioritize their studies over distractions.
Bringing attention to road accidents, the minister urged students, who ride two wheelers, to always wear helmets.
The event was also addressed by Principal Dr. Sukomal Kanti Ghosh, former minister Billal Miah, and social activist Uttam Kumar Das, who shared their insights and encouragement for the students.
