Agartala, Feb 14: The high-voltage poll campaigns by various political parties came to an end at 4 pm on Tuesday.
The state witnessed intense campaigning by all major political parties- BJP, Tipra Motha, CPM, Congress, TMC and IPFT with participation of star campaigners.
Almost all the political parties carried out various campaigns programmes on the last day while Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha held a massive road show in his constituency- Town Bordowali.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed three massive election rallies, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held several poll rallies while other union ministers and central leaders including J.P. Nadda, Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani and Kiren Rijiju also took part in the poll campaigns in favour of BJP.
Besides, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma campaigned hard across the state for the BJP-nominated candidates.
CPM’s Sitaram Yechury, Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat, Mohammad Selim, Meenakshi Mukherjee, Dipshika Dhar and Shatarup Ghosh also campaigned in the state. Meanwhile, the Left front is contesting in 47 seats.
But in case of Congress, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi didn’t take part in the party’s poll campaign. However, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Gourav Gogoi, Adhir Chowdhury, Alka Lamba, Mita Chakraborty and some others campaigned for the party candidates. Meanwhile Congress is fighting in 13 seats, as per alliance with the left front.
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, and the party's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee were among the star campaigners who addressed elections rallies in the state.
Tipra Motha is another major political party which is fighting in 42 seats. The supremo of this regional party- Pradyot Kishore Debbarma alone tried to give the party’s election campaign a shape to woo the voters.
Amid tight security, the elections in sixty seats will take place on February 16 next and the poll results will be declared on March 2. Tripura is likely to witness a multi-corner fight.
According to official sources, the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and state police personnel have taken up positions in all the constituencies. Around 31,000 polling personnel either reached or are on the way to their designated 3,327 polling stations in 2504 locations.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tripura Kiran Gitte said a total of 259 candidates, including 31 women, are contesting the February 16 Assembly elections.
