Tripura Power sector suffers damages in storm, restoration works underway

Agartala, Apr 22: The power supply was disrupted in various places of the state due to storm on Friday, Power minister Ratanlal Nath said on Saturday.
Speaking to the media, Nath said, the electricity service was affected in 23 divisions and 79 sub-divisions. Sonamura and Belonia divisions were affected the most.
The preliminary assessment revealed that 337 km transmission line was snapped, 577 electric poles and 57 transformers were damaged in the thunderstorm.
The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) initiated the restoration works from Friday afternoon on a priority basis, the Power minister said, adding that 70-75 percent of the restoration work was already done and it would be completed by Sunday noon.
Despite shortage of staff, the TSECL was working on a war-footing manner to normalize the electricity services.
Nath said, Tripura has 52,000 km power transmission lines, 13 lakh electric poles and 18,000 transformers.
