Agartala, July 12: Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman condemned the attack and vandalization of the vehicles of congress leaders Ashish Saha and Szarita Laitphlang on Tuesday and alleged that the state of Tripura is reeling under a ‘Jungle raj’.
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala Congress Bhawan on Tuesday evening, Barman accused the ruling BJP party and alleged, “The present government has lost all its credibility and indulged in hooliganism.”
The AICC Secretary and Congress party in charge of Tripura Szarita Laitphlang and senior Congress leader of the state Ashis Kumar Saha were attacked at Bishramganj in Sepahijala district on Tuesday allegedly by BJP miscreants on abroad daylight.
Reacting sharply on the incident Barman alleged, “Hooliganisms took all its height in the state of Tripura under the rule of this BJP government, where the MLAs and the leaders of opposition parties are being targeted and the youths of this state are being used in such evil practises.”
“I appeal to those youths or the karyakartas who are being misused and misguided to shun violence under the instigation of the BJP leaders,” he stated.
Barman said, “We hope that the present chief minister will act in line with his words he uttered after taking oath. We hope that the present chief minister will be able to rescue the deteriorated rule of law in the state and get back the democratic rights for the people of the state.”
On the other hand, briefing the incident of attack, Szarita told the media that the miscreants were assembled in the BJP office for a long time and attempted to launch an attack in the party meeting of Congress.
she said, "Our programme was duly intimated to the police. The style of attack and the attitude of the miscreants raising Jai Sri Ram from BJP party office showed they were instructed from the top level and it was known to police."
Szarita alleged, "Tripura government is failing to provide security to the people and giving space for the opposition parties. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha had assured our parliamentary team that his government would take steps against the criminals who have been doing such criminal activities but as of now none was arrested."
"The ruling party goons vandalized the opposition party offices, houses of the opposition supporters and workers and terrorised the situation even after winning three out of four assembly by-elections. Unless the violence is stopped and oppositions would not give due space in the democratic process, Congress will not sit idle," she warned.
