Agartala, Oct 27: Tripura Traffic Police Superintendent Manik Das on Sunday claimed that Tripura performs better in traffic management compared to other northeastern states and the national average.
Speaking at the ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ and Police Commemoration Day at Town Hall in Agrtala, Das highlighted that data on various traffic parameters reflect Tripura's improved standing.
He pointed out that the state’s accident rate per one lakh population is one-third of the national average and lower than Assam in the Northeast.
Das further noted that the death rate from accidents is also significantly lower in Tripura, with 6.2 fatalities per lakh population annually, compared to the national average of 12.
Despite these achievements, over 250 people still lose their lives in road accidents in the state each year, indicating room for further improvement.
Das emphasized the need to raise public awareness about traffic rules to enhance road safety.
