Agartala, Sep 5: The Tripura government has allocated around Rs 25.27 crore for tourism development, announced Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury in the State Assembly on Thursday.
According to Chowdhury, the funds are being used to enhance the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur, with plans to transform it into a spiritual tourism destination.
The Minister expressed hope that the temple's infrastructure work to be completed within this financial year.
He also mentioned that new tourist centers are being developed, including the Surma Chhara Waterfalls in Kamalpur, Shaheed Dhananjay Memorial Park in South Tripura, Indo-Bangla Maitri Park in Chottakhola and the Buddhist Stupa in Boxanagar.
The state is working with the Asian Development Bank to improve tourism infrastructure at various locations, including Chabimura and Sonamukhi, Chowdhury added.
To promote Tripura's tourism, the government is participating in fairs in cities like Kolkata, Delhi and Ahmedabad, he added.
Chowdhury highlighted that at least 41 modern log huts were built at various tourist sites recently and more are on the way.
Other developments include a light and sound show at Ujjayanta Palace and motorized boats in Narikel Kunja.
He also announced that several plans are in the pipeline to establish home stays in Narikel Kunja and Jampui Hills and to further develop tourism at Unakoti and Agartala.
Finally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed to build ropeways at key tourist spots, including Matabari and Chabimura, Chowdhury said.
