Udaipur, Mar 02: Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Sunday laid the foundation stone of the Tripura Sundari Open University in the presence of Minority Welfare Minister Shukla Charan Noatia and MLA from Matabari Assembly constituency Abhisek Debroy.
Speaking at the event, The Minister said, “The founder of the institution today made a commitment that the University will function as a regular university as well. Initially, it was decided that the university will impart education in open distance learning mode but the university authorities are now convinced that regular mode of class should also be introduced. We welcome the decision. Within next one year, Rs 50 crore will be invested for construction of the buildings.”
Hitting out at the previous Left Front government, he said, “Matabari assembly constituency is one of the most significant constituencies of the state which had long been neglected by the previous Left Front government. After the BJP government came to power, all constituencies of the state witnessed equitable progress and development.”
Stating that education is the top most priority of the present government, Singha Roy said, “In terms of education, Tripura is in a very good position but we are yet to surpass Kerala. In the last seven years, we have done a lot of work in terms of education. A total 21 Ekalavya Vidyalayas had been established exclusively for the tribal areas. As many as 125 Vidyajyoti Schools affiliated to CBSE board had been set up which are now functional. A private University is operational in North Tripura and now a University is being started here. These are some of the big achievements of this government.”
