Agartala, June 16: With the development of small and medium scale industries, Tripura will soon become the business corridor for the entire North-East region of the country, said transport, food and civil supplies minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Sunday.
Minister Sushanta Chowdhury along with the BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee on Sunday inaugurated state-of-the-art flour mill of “Barama Natureorchid Pvt. Ltd.” here at Agartala Purba Champamura.
Inaugurating the flour mill, the minister said that surrounded by Bangladesh, Tripura is eyeing forward to become the business corridor for the North East region of the country. He said, “With the joint effort both the Central and the State government Tripura’s transport and communication system has been improved.”
“The double-engine government has worked to strengthen trade between Tripura and Bangladesh. Very soon the Agartala Nishchintapur railway station connecting Bangladesh will be operational, with which Tripura eyes to become the corridor for North East region,” Chowdhury said, adding that the government has worked to establish and develop airways, waterways and roadways in Tripura.
He said, “Development of railways, airways, waterways and roadways has been attracting investors to establish their business in Tripura. In addition to this, the small and medium scale industries are also growing in the state.”
The minister praised the Barama Natureorchid Pvt. Ltd for establishing an advanced state-of-the-art flour mill here and said that the mill is opened with the cost of Ra 8 crore. He said, “In view of having a huge scope of business in Tripura, the state has industry department is contemplating to grow industries in the state with an eye to generate mass employment opportunities for the unemployed youths of the state and attract investors from the state and abroad.”
The minister believe that the industrialists of the state would play a key role in growing the state’s economy and generating employment opportunity.
On the other hand, the BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee in his address to the inaugural programme said that the Tripura government has set a target to make Tripura - a self-reliant state. He said, “In addition to the giant rubber industry in our state, the industrialists of the state and abroad are showing interest to invest in Tripura and establish their industries.”
“To enhance the livelihood of the farmers of the state, Tripura government has started procuring paddy from the farmers,” he said, adding that the previous government had failed to introduce state produced rice in PDS. The previous government was negligent towards growing business establishments in the state, where the investors of the state and abroad stayed away from establishing their industries in Tripura.
“Due to the since effort of the present government, industries are being set up in Tripura now, where the government is also focused on generating employment opportunities,” he said, adding that the government is aimed to grow the economy of the state.
