Kailasahar, Dec 23: Jailed in Moulvibazar District jail of neighboring Bangladesh for illegally crossing the border from the state of Tripura, a youth of Kailasahar Gobindapur area – Ruhi Das Sarkar returned to his parents on Saturday safely from Bangladesh.
The incident took place on June 3 last year in 2022, when Ruhi Das Sarkar son of Dulal Sarkat, a daily wage labourer by profession left his home after being annoyed with his mother Pramila Sarkar and since then he went missing as he crossed the border to enter Bangladesh illegally.
Soon after he entered Bangladesh, the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) detained him and later Ruhi Das Sarkar was jailed in the district jail of Bangladesh’ Moulvibazar.
On the other hand, a social activist and a worker of Moulvibazar district court of Bangladesh Md. Azad Miah incidentally met Ruhi Das Sarkar in the jail in November this year and realized the reason behind his land in the jail of Bangladesh and collected his address. Social activist Md. Azad Miah reached Kailasahar Gobindapur on December 8 and met the parents of Ruhi Das Sarkar and later collected his documents including his Aadhar and other relevant documents to return back to Bangladesh.
Reportedly, the social activist met a lawyer of Bangladesh Supreme Court Bibhuti Tarafdar and briefed the incident of Ruhi Das Sarkar. Soon after on December 11 last the lawyer with the help of the social activist filed a writ petition with the Dhaka High Court to get Ruhi Das Sarkar out of jail and send him back to his home town in Tripura.
Gearing the petition, the Dhaka High Court on December 17 last ordered to release Ruhi Das Sarkar from jail with dignity and honour and send him back to his home town ensuring proper arrangement.
Receiving the High Court’s order on December 20 last, the Superintendent of Moulvibazar district jail released Ruhi Das Sarkar from jail and brought him along the India-Bangladesh border at Kailasahar on Saturday evening and handed him over with the BGB and BSF. After an hour of interrogation, the BSF troopers handed Ruhi Das Sarkar with the police of Kailasahar police station.
Soon after reaching the police station on Saturday, Ruhi Das Sarkar confessed that he was jailed in Bangladesh for illegally crossing the border on June 3 last year. He said that being annoyed with his mother he left his home and crossed the border to land in Bangladesh.
Ruhi Das Sarkar later returned to his home safely, while his parents burst into tears getting back their son after a year. Parents of Ruhi Das Sarkar thanked the social activist and the lawyer of Bangladesh for their efforts in bringing back their son to his home safely.
