Tripura's Queen pineapple steals show in Dilli Haat

Agartala, May 18: An exhibition on Tripura's famous Queen pineapple was inaugurated in the national capital on Thursday.
The exhibition was inaugurated in Delhi Haat by Union Minister for Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar in presence of Tripura’s Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Ratan Lal Nath and others on Wednesday.
Speaking at the programme, Nath said the main objective of the initiative is promotion of the fruit in national and international market. The exhibition will continue for two months.
Tripura produces both Queen and Kew varieties of pineapples in large quantities. But, the local farmers were facing a problem due to lack in market linkage, Nath said, adding that various initiatives were taken by the state government since 2018 for promoting and marketing Queen pineapple, the state fruit of Tripura.
He also spoke about the development of agriculture and horticulture sectors in the state.
Meanwhile, Known for its pleasant aroma and sweetness, the Queen variety of Pineapple from Tripura recently received Geographical Identifier (GI) tag.
The exhibition was launched in a function organized by Tripura Government and State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation (SIMFED) at Dilli Haat, INA.
According to a press release, Nath had discussions with some exporters in the event for exporting the Queen pineapple grown in Tripura to international markets.
The uniqueness, quality and usefulness of Tripura’s organic Queen Pineapple was appreciated by the people present at the event.
