Melaghar Oct 28: In the dark of Thursday night, Melaghar Power Station was attacked by a group of angry youths. Tapan Chowdhury, a GR2 employee of the Electricity Department was also attacked while chairs, tables, telephone receivers and other items of the power department were vandalized.
According to the details, Thursday night at around 10 pm around 10-12 youths of Melaghar Master Para came to the office of the Melaghar Electricity Department and attacked Tapan Chowdhury, an employee of the Electricity Department, raising allegations of power cut.
Tapan Chowdhury, tried to explain that all the workers went to repair the electricity connection in Kala Khet area that was suffering with power outage since four days, and asked the youths to wait for few minutes.
But the youths denied to listen to any excuse and acted violently.
The unruly youths ransacked the entire office and also assaulted employee Tapan Choudhury.
A written complaint was filed with the Melaghar PS on behalf of the electricity department.
Notably, Melaghar electricity office has only eight helpers to provide service to such a large area, but there is not a single lineman.
Moreover, there is only one vehicle for the employees who have to tackle all sorts of service issues in the vast area.
Not only this, there is also shortage of adequate Melagarh equipments.
In such a situation, question arises if the employees of the electricity department are really responsible for the poor condition of the electricity service?
