Agartala, Sept 09: Van Mitra workers have raised their voices and demanded an increase in daily wages and the payment of pending salaries.
They have submitted a deputation to the Chief Forest Officer, urging immediate action.
One of the workers mentioned that about 1200 Van Mitras were recruited under the Forest Department in 2021.
Initially, they worked 10 days a month, earning around Rs. 2,000. Later, their workdays were increased to 20 days, with wages rising to Rs. 3,500. However, they argue that this amount is inadequate to support their families, causing financial strain.
The workers are demanding a wage increase, with a minimum salary of Rs 15,000 per month. They have warned that if their demands are not met, they will escalate their protests in the coming days.
