Sepahijala, April 15: Villagers of West Charilam Koroimura area on Monday staged a protest against the ONGC’s gas exploration drilling project work and demanded compensation for the families affected by the project work.

The agitated villagers, who also blocked the road to restrict the project work on Monday said that around 250 houses in their village developed cracks due to exploration activities carried out by the ONGC in search of gas reserves.

The affected families including other villagers demanded the ONGC authority for compensation for the damages. They said that the damages to the buildings were caused by dynamite blasts conducted by the ONGC.

Alarmed by the road blockade, police rushed to the spot and interacted with the villagers, where the agitated villagers asked the ONGC authority to intervene on this and meet their demand.
