Agartala/ Churaibari, Feb 02: Illegal tap water connections and excessive use of motors are reportedly creating a problem in water supply at several locations of Churaibari in North Tripura district.
As a result, the households having valid tap water connections under Jal Jeevan Mission are facing problems.
As alleged by the villagers, around 15,000 tap water connections were provided in five Gram Panchayats- Churaibari, Purba Churaibari, Fulbari, Purba Fulbari and Lakshminagar a few years ago. The supply of drinking water was taking place smoothly.
But, there is an allegation that a racket reportedly collected huge amount of money from the public by providing around 5000 tap water connections in an illegal manner.
Presently, Arun Bhattacharjee is the contractor of the project. He hired three people.
At the beginning, there was a demand of around 5000 litre water in such areas. But, the demand has now increased to 2 lakh litres, following the illegal connections.
The people having valid water connections demanded an action from the appropriate authority to immediately address the issue.
