Agartala, Mar 04: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ready to talk with Tipra Motha to resolve the grievances of Tribal people in Tripura but it would be regarding ‘greater Tripura’.
Sarma, who arrived in Tripura on Saturday ahead of the formation of the new cabinet, said Tipra Motha raised certain issues regarding the welfare of tribal people without dividing the state.
“We (BJP) are ready to sit with them (Tipra Motha). We want to resolve the grievances of tribal people but we can’t talk of Greater Tipraland. Tripura will remain united,” he said.
The Assam Chief Minister continued, “Within greater Tripura, whatever needs to be talked, whatever needs to be addressed, both the central and state governments will be ready.”
Replying to a query regarding post-poll violence, he said, Tripura government is looking after the issue.
“Whoever wins, whoever loses- we should be one. In democracy, there shouldn’t be any post-poll violence,” Dr. Sarma told reporters.
BJP state leaders including Pratima Bhowmik, Papia Datta and Amit Rakshit welcomed the Assam Chief Minister at Maharaja Bir Bikram airport, Agartala.
Meanwhile, BJP-IPFT alliance retained power in Tripura by winning 33 out of 60 seats as per the assembly poll results declared on March 2 last. Tipra Motha secured 13 out of 42 seats contested and emerged as the second largest party.
The swearing-in ceremony would be held on March 8 next and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to attend the big event.
