Wild Jumbo attack: Forest Dept provides Rs 50K compensation to kin of deceased

Agartala April 08: The Tripura Forest Department provided a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the family of Nirudh Choudhury, who was trampled to death by a jumbo at Chakmaghat area of Khowai district.
On Monday, a team of officials led by PCCF Avinash Kanfade, Khowai District Magistrate among others accompanied by a large contingent of police and CRPF personnel visited the residence of deceased Nirudh Choudhury (70) at Kapali Tilla in Chakmaghat.
PCCF Avinash Kanfade handed over the cheque of Rs 50,000 to the kin of the deceased and also expressed his condolence to the bereaved family.
He assured of all necessary assistance to the family as per government rules.
Notably, on Sunday last, Nirudh Chowdhury (70) of Kapali Tilla, Chakmaghat went to a jungle located within 2 km distance of his home to collect firewood on Sunday evening. When he was returning, he came under the attack of the wild jumbo and died on the spot.
The incident has caused a huge sensation in the area as the villagers expressed dissatisfaction over the role of Forest Department officials and guards.
