New Delhi, Nov 29: The entire first week of the Winter Session of Parliament failed to transact any substantial business as proceedings in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were marred by uproar created by the opposition over the Adani issue and violence in Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh.
As on other days, proceedings in both the Houses were adjourned for the day on Friday too as unrelenting opposition members created furore.
As soon as the Lok Sabha met for the day, opposition members raised slogans with Congress and Samajwadi Party members rushing to the Well, derailing the vital Question Hour.
Newly elected Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too joined the opposition protest, standing in solidarity near her seat, a day after taking oath as a member of the House.
Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House first till noon and then till Monday as noisy protests continued.
Similar scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha, prompting Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to observe that adjournment notices were being "weaponised" as a mechanism of disruption.
As in the previous sittings of the current Winter Session, the House could not take up scheduled business on Friday as well and the proceedings were adjourned till Monday, minutes after it assembled for the day.
Meanwhile, the Congress said it was a "the big mystery" as to why the government was not resisting the interruptions and instead facilitating the aggression of the INDIA parties especially on the Adani issue.
"Yet another day of a washout in the Parliament on the Modani issue. Both Houses adjourned today after only a few minutes. The big mystery is why the government is not resisting the adjournments," Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X.
"On the contrary, the government is facilitating the aggression of the INDIA parties on Modani especially - as also on Manipur, Sambhal, and Delhi's law and order. Clearly it has much to feel defensive and apologetic about," the Congress leader said in his post on the micro-blogging site.
