Agartala/ Kailashahar, June 14: With the court’s verdict worked in favour, the Kailashahar Municipal Council is set to resume several development projects soon.
A good number of development projects had been halted for a considerable period following a court order passed on November 20, 2023.
On Friday, vice-chairperson of the Kailashahar Municipal Council- Nitish Dey announced in a press conference that such pending works would resume soon.
The BJP-led new body of Kailashahar Municipal Council was formed in 2019. Initially, various development projects were undertaken, but they were interrupted by legal challenges. Several local residents filed petitions alleging that the projects were being carried out unlawfully. These cases led to the suspension of on-going development works.
The court's verdict has now confirmed that the development activities were legal and the petitions have been rejected. The disputed projects included the relocation of statues, the construction of a market shed near RGM Hospital, and the renovation of Kali Dighi with plans to install a statue of Lord Shiva in the middle of the lake.
A market shed was constructed near RGM Hospital, and based on requests from Ex-servicemen, a Kargil statue was installed adjacent to this shed. There was another proposal to name this market after the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The works on the statue of Vajpayee and the market structure commenced in 2020, with significant progress made before the legal interruptions.
Due to the on-going litigation, the completion of these projects had been delayed. With the court's ruling in favor of the municipal council, Dey expressed confidence in the judicial system and stated that all pending projects would now be expedited.
The court's order was delayed due to the Lok Sabha elections, but the municipal council would now focus on completing the development projects swiftly, Dey added.
