Agartala June 03: Raising allegations against the state women’s commission over negligence in dispersing duties, All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), Tripura state unit organized a protest in the capital city here on Saturday.
The protest was organized in front of the Tripura Commission for Women office in Melarmath area of capital city wherein the women leaders’ raised slogans against the role of the commission.
Speaking to the reporters, one of the senior AIDWA leaders said, “In last one month at least 5 cases of domestic violence, 7 rape incidents, 4 incidents of molestation have been reported in Tripura but the action that must have been taken according to law was not enough. Following which criminals have got extra mileage to conduct such heinous crimes”.
Slamming the role of State women’s commission, she added, “It is surprising as well as shocking how the state women’s commission is playing the role of a silent spectator. Instead of conducting investigation to dig out the whereabouts of the cases or see that the criminals are punished, the state women’s commission authorities are in deep sleep”.
The AIDWA state leaders further alleged that the state women’s commission has not even met the victims or their families who are going through tough times.
AIDWA leaders demanded Tripura Women’s Commission to wake up from sleep and fulfill their responsibilities towards the society, especially women of the state.
