Agartala, July 05: As the government acquired the two tea estates of Tufania Lunga and Laxmi Lunga of Bamutia block in West Tripura district and handed over the estates with the Tripura tea Development Corporation Ltd. (TTDCL), the workers of the tea estates started agitating against the move of the government.
The incident took place on Saturday last after the officials of Mohanpour SDM office and DCM office accompanied by police reached the tea estates to lock it and hand it over with the TTDCL officially. Since then, the workers started agitating the move.
As the agitation went on, the MLA Krishnadhan Das met the agitating workers of the tea estates on Tuesday and asked them to resume their work in the tea estates as the acquisition of the estates by the government and handing over these with the TTDCL will not out any impact on their earnings and livelihood.
“The agitating workers and the staff of the two tea estates were demanding for restoration of the ownership of the estates, but I made them understand that government’s take over on these estates will not hamper their earnings and they will be paid as usual by the government now,” the MLA told Tripura Times correspondent on Tuesday evening.
He said, “Earlier, one DS group, partnered by the Left government, was operating the two estates in Bamutia, despite the government having acquired the estates. So, now the BJP government has once again decided to seal the two tea estates and hand it over with the TTDCL to ensure better functioning of the tea estates.”
“Now, the situation is under control as the agitating workers finally agreed to continue their work in the tea estates,” he claimed.
