Agartala Sept 08: Through a series of programs, the Tripura Unit of Indian Association of Physiotherapist (IAP) observed World Physiotherapy Day 2024 keeping the theme of ‘Low Back Pain (LBP) and the role of physiotherapy in its management and prevention’ at front.
Highlighting the significance of this day and the role of physiotherapists in the health sector, the observance started with a walkathon where physiotherapists associated with different medical institutions including government and private hospitals took part.
The rally traversed various routes of the state capital starting from the front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan reflecting the contributions of physiotherapists and highlighting the role they play in preventing and treating a wide range of physical conditions.
Talking to the reporters, Samar Bhattacharjee, general secretary Indian Association of Physiotherapists, Tripura State Chapter said, “This day is celebrated globally to honour the people about the work of physiotherapists and to inform the common people about our importance in healthcare”.
“Physiotherapy is a science- backed practice that helps to cure a large number of health conditions like arthritis, heart diseases, respiratory issues etc. apart from enhancing the quality of life and rehabilitating injuries”, he added.
Raising the demand of recruitment of more number of Physiotherapists in the health sector, the general secretary of the organization said, “Keeping in mind the benefits and important role of physiotherapists, the state government must take immediate steps to recruit more number of qualified physiotherapists in the medical sector”.
“it was in the year 2017 when the state government last recruited physiotherapists. Many youths are sitting jobless compared to the demand in hospitals, PHCs and CHCs. We urge the chief minister to recruit us under the health department”, he added.
Coach Bishweshwar Nandi, who received Dronacharya Award 2016 for Gymnastics also took part in the day’s rally.
Later, a free physiotherapy camp was held at the Agartala Press Club for the journalists, media persons and their family members.
