Agartala June 01: Demanding the President of India to intervene so as to stop the atrocities on women wrestlers and order the central government to take action against the FIR filed by them, All India Democratic Youth Organization (AIDYO), Tripura state committee on Thursday submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India through the West District Magistrate.
Speaking to the reporters, AIDYO state president Bhabatosh Dey strongly condemned the attitude of central government and its concerned authorities towards the wrestlers.
He said, “For more than a month, our nation has been witnessing the protest demonstration of the women wrestlers at Jantar Mantar, in the national capital. The women wrestlers who are the pride of our nation have been subjected to undue harassment for no reason that they launched a complaint against a powerful person of the ruling party, MP and president of WFI Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh”.
“The common people across the nation are in utter shock to find out about the sexual harassment faced by the women wrestlers for long years by the federation officials including the president”, he added.
Dey further said, “It is extremely shameful that even after rigorous protests, FIR and complaints, the central government or the police administration has failed to arrest the culprits and are instead torturing the activists who are protesting against the wrong”.
Adding that the constitution of India provides rights to protest peacefully, AIDYO state president said, “Finding no positive role from the BJP led central government and police, we urge the President of India to intervene in the matter and do justice with the daughters of the nation”.
The AIDYO activists further slammed the ruling BJP in the state as well as in the Centre for alleged hike in crime rate against women.
