Agartala Sept 02: With barely few hours left for the voting process to begin at 23-Dhanpur and 20- Boxanagar assembly constituency seats, the state BJP president made a final appeal to the people to support the party candidates.
Addressing the press from the state BJP party headquarters on Saturday morning, Rajib Bhattacharjee roasted the opposition over its ‘Unity’ agenda.
“The ‘Opposition Unity’ as boasted by the Communists is nothing but a propaganda to distract the common people. After 35 years of rule in Tripura, the CPIM has become so feeble that they need support of other parties to win against BJP which is shameful”, he said.
The state BJP president said, “After episodial defeat of CPIM in Triupura, first during the 2018 assembly polls and later during the 2023 assembly polls when they even lost their ‘Prime Opposition’ tag, now the Communists are in search of a ‘Baisakhi’ to stand on their feet”.
He further pointed out that even after closed door talks with Congress and campaigning in the name of ‘United Opposition’, not a single Congress leader could be seen on field in both the assembly constituencies; Boxanagar and Dhanpur.
“We did not find a single Congress leader campaigning in support of CPIM candidates in both the assembly constituencies”, he said.
Bhattacharjee added, “Congress has no base in the Sonamura subdivision. Moreover, the joining of senior Congress leader Billal Miah with the BJP was the final nail in the Congress’ coffin”.
Talking about TIPRA Motha’s decision regarding the by-elections, Rajib said, “I thank them for not supporting the Communists and also respect their decision of asking the party supporters to vote for the candidate of their choice”.
The state BJP president called upon the people to cast their votes on the basis of development and welfare.
He said, “CPIM, Congress all are old players of misgovernance. Votes should be casted on the basis of work done”.
He further highlighted the works done by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura in 5 years compared to the work done by the Communists in their 25 years of rule in the state.
“The work done by BJP in Tripura has given a new flight to the aspirations of all sections of people especially the minorities, women and youth. To hold on to the developmental pace, BJP is the only choice”, he asserted.
