Agartala, Mon 17. Tipra Motha Party founder and royal scion, Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarman, has expressed his concern over the alleged violation of the “status quo” consensus regarding the Kokborok board exams. He stated that despite assurances, some students faced difficulties due to a lack of assistance from invigilators, leading them to submit blank answer sheets in the CBSE conducted board exams.
Debbarman highlighted that last year’s controversy over the Roman script was resolved with an understanding that students could write their answers in either Bengali or Roman script. While question papers were set in Bengali, invigilators were expected to assist English-medium students struggling to understand the questions.
He claimed that while the agreement was mostly upheld, certain areas saw invigilators failing to help students, causing unnecessary distress. “Some people are deliberately creating problems. We are part of the ruling alliance, but that won’t stop me from speaking up for my community’s rights,” he asserted.
Taking swift action, Debbarman directed student bodies and MLAs to document instances where students were not assisted and compile a report for Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. He urged Tipra Motha MLAs to raise the issue in the upcoming Assembly session.
Clarifying that the party does not oppose the Bengali language, he stressed the need to identify schools where students did not receive cooperation. “We will address this issue to ensure fairness for our students,” he added.
