The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a show-cause notice to Mahatwa Ranjan Chakma, general secretary of the 49-Chawmanu Mandal under Dhalai district, over allegations of engaging in anti-party activities and damaging the image of the organization.
According to a press release issued by the party, allegations against Chakma of being involved in anti-party campaigning recently came to the attention of the state BJP president.
The party alleged that such activities had not only tarnished the image of the BJP but had also created resentment among party workers. Chakma has also been accused of allegedly attempting to influence certain BJP functionaries to leave the party.
In view of the allegations, and following the directions of the state BJP president, party state general secretary Bhagaban Chandra Das issued the show-cause notice to Chakma.
The notice, according to the party, seeks an explanation from Chakma as part of efforts to maintain party discipline and ascertain the facts and circumstances behind the allegations.
The BJP said the action was aimed at ensuring organizational discipline and protecting the party's image.
