Tripura University launches 16 student clubs to promote skills beyond classrooms

Tripura University has launched 16 student clubs to provide students with opportunities to develop creativity, leadership, social responsibility and other skills beyond regular classroom learning.

The initiative, being implemented under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Debabrata Das, was showcased during the university’s Diksharambh 2026 programme, where newly admitted students registered for membership in various clubs.

The clubs cover a range of academic, cultural, technological and social interests, including Quiz, Debate, Film, Photography, Swachhata, Drama, Literary, Environment, Animal Welfare and Music.

Students can also join clubs focused on Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, Unity in Diversity, Coding, Wellness, Nukkad-Mime-Street Theatre and Heritage.

The university said the clubs would provide platforms for students to explore their interests, develop skills and collaborate with peers outside their regular academic programmes.

Among the initiatives, the New Media Literacy Club will focus on helping students verify information before accepting or sharing it. Its activities are expected to cover identification of misinformation, understanding media, critical thinking and responsible digital behaviour.

University officials said the objective was to help students become more informed and responsible digital citizens amid the rapid circulation of information through online platforms.

The administration said academic performance and examination results alone cannot fully define a student’s development, and highlighted leadership, teamwork, creativity, social responsibility and communication skills as important areas of student development.

The university plans to organise competitions, workshops, cultural programmes, awareness drives and other co-curricular activities through the clubs during the academic year.

Officials said the activities would enable students from different disciplines to interact, work in teams and take responsibility for organising programmes. Such participation, they said, could help students build confidence and organisational skills while developing their individual talents.

The response from newly admitted students during Diksharambh 2026 has encouraged the administration to make the clubs an active component of campus life.

The university said the initiative was aimed at creating a broader learning environment in which students could engage in activities ranging from technology and media literacy to music, theatre, environmental awareness and heritage.

With the new academic session underway, the administration is looking to expand activities under the clubs and encourage greater student participation throughout the year.
