Agartala March 22: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidate, Dipak Majumder, for the Ramnagar Assembly bypoll, which is slated to be held along with the Lok Sabha elections for the West Parliamentary Constituency on April 19.
A political and social activist, Dipak Majumder is serving as the Mayor in the BJP-run Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) at present.
“I am grateful towards the Bharatiya Janata Party’s central leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National president JP Nadda, chief minister Dr Manik Saha and others for showing faith in me and naming me as a candidate for the 7 Ramnagar assembly bypolls”, said Dipak Majumder whose candidature was announced on Friday by Arun Singh, BJP National General Secretary and In-charge.
In an exclusive interaction with Tripura Times, Dipak Majumder said, “Ramnagar is my home. People know me here. I am confident they will vote in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Also, I promise to live up to the expectations of the party and the people here and hold on to the pace of developmental work done in this assembly constituency under the able leadership of late Surajit Dutta on being elected”.
“With the onset of BJP-led government in Tripura in the year 2018, the state has seen drastic positive changes in all spheres. Not only developmental projects, schemes and others, people have seen good governance and peace under BJP regime. And therefore, I am confident that in the bypolls for Ramnagar seat and also in both the Lok Sabha seats BJP will win with a huge number of votes”. He added.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha also congratulated Mayor Dipak Majumder for being named as the party’s candidate for Ramanagar by-election. In his social media post, Dr Saha wrote, “Many congratulations to Dipak Majumder, the BJP nominated candidate for 7 Ramnagar Assembly Constituency. To make the double-engine government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi more prosperous, I appeal to the voters of Ramnagar to press the ‘Lotus Symbol’ on April 19 and ensure Dipak Majumder’s victory with majority of votes”.
In 2013, Dipak alias Alik Majumder unsuccessfully contested the assembly elections from Khowai assembly seat on a Congress ticket.
This is for the second term that Majumder will contest the mainstream election on a BJP ticket for the Ramnagar bypoll as the seat fell vacant when Surajit Dutta died in December last year following prolonged illness, necessitating the bypoll.
Majumder will contest against Congress supported CPI-M candidate, ex- MLA Ratan Das in the Ramnagar seat.
