Concern grows over redeveloped College Tilla lake: Fishes dying, foul stench pervades air

The newly redeveloped college Tilla lake has been in the centre of controversy due to its immense ecological importance and the alleged unplanned development work carried out under the smart city project leading to protests by a section of environmental groups.

According to reports, the visitors since this morning noticed corpses of fishes floating on the water surface in different corners of the renovated park and a foul stench is pervading all over. It is further alleged that the stagnant water in the water body is no longer fit for fish culture and the entire ecosystem of the lake came under threat. Apart from that, a large number of migratory birds used to roost in the water body with the onset of the winter.

Bird lovers and people with interest in the subject of ornithology prefer this site in the winters as an ideal destination for capturing different types of exotic bird species flying different parts of the globe to congregate in the lake.

However, the photographs and reports of fishes dying on the ecological crucial water body of the city invited criticism from different walks of life. The fisheries department and the Smart City authorities tried to reach out for comments on the matter but they refused to make any official comments on the matter.
