Kicking off its full-scale campaign for the upcoming Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has announced candidates for 49 of the 51 municipal wards, signalling its readiness for what is expected to be a fiercely contested civic battle in the state capital.
The candidate list, released under the signature of TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha, marks a significant step in the party’s election preparations. While nominees have been finalised for the overwhelming majority of wards, the party has kept its decision pending for Ward Nos. 30 and 35, indicating that consultations on those seats are still underway.
The announcement comes at a time when political activity has intensified across Agartala, with major parties accelerating organisational efforts, candidate selection and campaign planning ahead of the municipal elections.
According to the list, the Congress has nominated Jayanta Majumder (Ward 1), Soma Shil (Ward 2), Joydhan Sarkar (Ward 3), Gouri Majumder (Ward 4) and Panna Deb (Ward 5) among its candidates in the opening wards. The party has also fielded Dulal Sarkar and Karuna Das from Wards 6 and 7 respectively.

By unveiling candidates for almost the entire corporation area in one stroke, Congress has sought to project organisational preparedness and electoral seriousness ahead of the polls. Party leaders believe the early declaration will provide candidates with additional time to reach out to voters and sharpen their campaign strategy.
With only two wards left to be finalised, the Congress has virtually completed its candidate-selection exercise, setting the stage for an intense contest as political parties prepare to take their campaigns into neighbourhoods and municipal wards across Agartala. The focus now shifts to candidate mobilisation, local issues and alliances, all of which are expected to shape the electoral landscape in the days ahead.
