
A mentally unstable youth who suffered critical injuries after being mercilessly thrashed by a frenzied mob in an area under Amtali police station district died while undergoing treatment.
The grieving family has demanded that the culprits be identified and given strict punishment, along with an impartial investigation into the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Gobinda Das (36), son of Rabindra Das of the Kalimata Sangha area near Agartala Railway Station. He died on Friday night while undergoing treatment at the Trauma Care Centre of Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital.
According to the family, police from Amtali police station brought Gobinda Das home on Tuesday. They were informed by the police that he had been rescued after being beaten by a mob at the Kathaltali-Ranirkhamar area. When he was brought home, family members noticed severe injuries on various parts of his body.
The next day, with the help of local residents, he was admitted to GBP Hospital. After remaining under treatment for several days, he died on Friday night.
The family said that Gobinda Das had undergone surgery after suffering a serious head injury in a road accident in 2014. Since that incident, he had been suffering from mental health problems.
The family has alleged that this was a planned and brutal murder. They have demanded that those involved be identified quickly, legal action be taken against them and an impartial investigation be conducted. The family also demanded exemplary punishment for the accused persons.Â
Police in Amtali Police station registered a specific case in connection with the incident.
