Agartala Sept 05: On Thursday, 63rd Teachers’ Day is being celebrated in schools, colleges and other educational institutes across the state as a mark of respect for the tireless efforts of teachers.
The tradition commenced in 1962, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice-President and second President of India.
Emphasizing the the pivotal role of teachers as custodians of traditional culture and values, Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma inaugurated the State-Level Teachers’ Day celebrations organized at Agartala Town Hall.
She congratulated all teachers, acknowledging their significant contribution to building a fair society.
In her address, Chakma also highlighted the challenging responsibilities faced by the teachers. She paid tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, urging the teaching community to follow his ideals.
Special Secretary, Department of Education, Ravel Hemendra Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
In his speech, Kumar highlighted the positive changes brought in the state education sector in recent years and how the government is working to ensure development of the education sector and the students.
Meanwhile, renowned academician Dr Hare Krishna Acharjee was felicitated with Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Samman, philanthropist Dipak Bhattacharjee received Maharani Tulsibati Samman and educationist Bandana Chowdhury Barman was awarded with Dr Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Samman 2024.
Also, a total of 34 teachers from different parts of the state received ‘Shishak Samman’- 2024.
The event also saw the unveiling of the ‘Shiksha Samachar’, by Minister Chakma and other guests.
Women’s College Agartala and TTAADC’s Khumulwng Polytechnic College were recognized as the best Colleges of the year.
Additionally, 14 schools received the Best School Award, and 8 schools were honoured for achieving Mission 555, which promotes green forestry.
Ranjit Debbarma, Director Kokborok and other Minority Languages Department, Animesh Debbarma, Director Higher Education, N C Sharma, Director, School Education Department among others also remained present at the day’s program.
