Gandacherra/Ambassa, April 26: At least 1059 tribal villagers of Sadaimohan Para under Ganganagar RD Block of Gandacherra subdivision in Dhalai Tripura district on Friday boycotted the polls and did not cast their vote as part of their agitation against bad condition of road in their village.
The villagers started their agitation from Thursday onward and announced to boycott the polls on Friday. They refrained from going to the polling stations on Friday, said DM of Dhalai district Saju Vaheed A.
In a telephonic conversation with our correspondent on Friday evening, the DM informed that out of 1059 voters, only 1 voter went to the polling station casted vote and the rest villagers boycotted the polls.
He said, “Our administrative team were on talk with them since Thursday and even today ADM, DC and other administrative officials approached them and convinced them to cast their vote, but they were adamant to cast their vote.”
“They were agitating against bad condition of the road in their village, but the fact is that the DPR for construction of the road is ready and we are waiting for forest clearance. Our administrative team had even shown them the DPR, while they were agitating, but they refused to cast their vote,” DM told our correspondent.
He also informed that he himself had a telephonic conversation and video conferencing with the agitators on Friday during the time of polling and even before the close of polling at 5 PM.
The agitators, who were seen standing outside the polling booths had not entered to cast their vote. They also complained about improper drinking water facilities in their village.
One of the agitating villagers said, “We made several agitations earlier and as a result we simply got assurances from the concerned administration. The road which has been left completely broken for a long time is not yet repaired and no necessary initiative was taken by the administration.”
