Agartala Dec 15: Commemorating 134 glorious years of Tripura’s renowned school, Umakanta Academy, a grand rally was organized in the heart of capital city on Friday.

Students of the school including the old grads, teachers and other school authorities took part in the rally.

Speaking to the reporters, on of the senior members of Umakanta Academy Alumni Association said, “The School was founded by Maharaja Bir Chandra Manikya in the year 1980 and was later developed by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya when he acceded to the throne in the year 1896. Later, in the year 1904, the school was renamed as Umakanta Academy to honour chief minister of the state Umakanta Das”.

Taking pride, the senior alumni member further said, “The school has produced many gems till date who are established in various fields today”.

The Alumni members further expressed gratitude towards the state government and the education department for developing the school with latest amenities and improving the infrastructure.

Later, a cultural program was organized at the school auditorium by present and former students of the school.
