Agartala, Mar 17: The 41st edition of Agartala Book Fair is scheduled to commence at International Fair Ground, Hapania from March 24 next.
This year, in view of the upcoming G20 Science event to be held in Agartala, the Book Fair will be organized with the theme- Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha chaired a meeting of the steering committee at Muktadhara auditorium in Agartala on Friday. He emphasized on making the Book Fair attractive and successful with concerted efforts of all concerned.
Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder, MLA Badharghat Mina Rani Sarkar, Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Bir Bikram University Satyadeo Poddar and former Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University Arunoday Saha among other dignitaries were present in the meeting.
The Book Fair will continue till April 5. Eight sub-committees have already been constituted for a smooth conduct of the Book Fair.
Eminent personalities from various fields took part in the discussions during the meeting. There were 10 proposals for selecting the theme. Based on the proposals, the participants expressed their views on the theme.
Finally, a five-member committee held a meeting soon after the steering committee’s meeting and decided that this year the Book Fair would be organized on the theme ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.
At the beginning of the meeting, Director of Information and Cultural Affairs Ratan Biswas briefed about the preparations being taken for organizing the Book Fair. He also highlighted the government’s plans for distribution of stalls and other aspects.
Like previous years, various cultural events would be organized during the Book Fair with the participation of book lovers, writers and publishers from various parts of the country and Bangladesh.
According to Biswas, 17 awards would be presented in various fields. Besides, he said, there would be arrangements for vehicles for movement of the people to Book fair from various places. He said, there were 162 stalls last year and the number would be increased this year.
